Is the MG Hector Successful in India?

It was the first launch of any MG car in India. It was launched first in June 2019, and then after six years, it got relaunched in the same month of 2025. The car comes with a stylish design, superb outlook, and a fresh interior. 

Design & Styling

The car comes in 6 monotone colors and 1 dual-tone color. It comes in Petrol and Diesel variants, and 19 models of this car are available.

The front of this car features a chrome insert in the front skid plates, front metallic scuff plates, a brushed metal finish, front leading lights, split headlamps, and sleek DRLs.

On its back, there is a rear metallic scuff plates, a sleek full-width LED strip, a shark fin antenna, chrome inserts in the rear skid plates, and LED blade-connected taillights. 

The side profile of this car comes with a chrome finish on the outside door handles, floating light turn indicators, and side body cladding finish in chrome. 

It has a 587 L boot space and can be opened in both automatic and manual modes. Eco, Normal, and Sports are the drive modes this car provides. Here are the dimensions of the car:

Engine & Performance

It offers a fuel capacity of 60 litres and provides a mileage of 9-12 km/l in petrol and 12-15 km/l in the diesel variant. It comes with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with 1500 cc that produces 142 hp at 250 nm torque.

The diesel engine of this car is a 2.0-litre unit with a displacement of 2000cc, producing 168 hp and 350 Nm of torque. It comes with a 6-speed automatic and manual transmission options. An 18-inch tyre with an alloy wheel of 215/55 R18.

MG Hector got a 4-star rating for adult occupant and a 3-star rating for child occupant by Global NCAP. Generally considered a good rating. The car has a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, ABS with EWD, front and rear cameras with parking sensors, 6 airbags, and front & rear disc brakes are also there. 

Pricing and Competitors 

The pricing of this car starts from 14.25 lakh rupees, and model-wise, the price increases to 23.14 lakh rupees. Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra XUV 700, and Tata Harrier are its competitors. 

Sales and Success 

Since the launch of this car, it has sold more than 2,00,000 units in its first two years itself (according to official figures). And was considered a successful launch in India in its initial days itself.
