The Impact of EVs on Gender Inclusivity

Women in India have faced oppression for decades across multiple sectors. The automotive industry is no different. However, the transition to EVs promises greater roles for Indian women.

More and more women are being hired in assembly lines and operations management as a testament to their skills, which are now being recognised. Ola Electric’s women-only manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu is a notable example of this noble revolution towards gender equality.

          India’s Growing Automobile Industry

With growth prospects as high as becoming one of the largest EV industries with a total investment potential of Rs. 16,60,000 Crore, India could become the leading country in shared mobility by 2030.

This surge brings with it the possibility of a brighter future as the Indian automobile industry has always been a crucial indicator of the country’s economic status. India is transforming the automotive industry in significant ways through the electrification of vehicles.

However, even the most pioneering of inventions has its drawbacks. In the adoption of Electric Vehicles, one such challenge is the environmental impact of lithium mining. It is also becoming necessary to provide several charging stations at regular intervals if this surge in EV usage is to continue.

Alongside this, there has also been a growing demand for hybrid vehicles since many people are prone to seeking better alternatives without having to compromise the comfort and familiarity of older models.

Without addressing these issues and following through with required adaptations, long-term sustainability would become a hassle.

Regardless, the growth of India’s automobile industry in the near future has become glaringly imminent and will continue to impact its population and its position among other countries in the years to come.
