Tata Tiago CNG AMT: From Portugal to India

Indicating strength and resilience, the Portuguese masculine name “Tiago” was chosen by Tata Motors and Appella. CNG AMT depicts the powertrains and automatic transmission features. The car was initially named Zica, but the final choices seemed better. It’s a specific variant of the Tata Tiago.

Tata Tiago CNG AMT: Launch Date, Sales, Price

On February  8th, 2024, the Tata Tiago CNG AMT was introduced. Its booking started in January 2024. The automatic transmission car was made accessible in dual-cylinder CNG technology in the indian market. 

Its price varies from different model in different cities and dealerships. It’s also available in EMI. Ex-showroom price Rs 7.90 lakhs, and higher variants cost around Rs 8.55 lakhs.  

In April-July 2025, around 5,500 to 8,300 units were sold. The total Tiago sold 600,000, creating a milestone in 2024. Eco-friendly appeal and competitive pricing deeply contributed to its success. Also, being affordable, it becomes the customer’s popular choice. Tata Motors presented the Tiago and Tigor as India’s first ATM and CNG cars. Receiving significant demands from customers, it stayed strong in its selling point in the segment. 

Tata Tiago CNG AMT: Attributes

The Tata Tiago CNG AMT offers city convenience and cost savings, featuring a smooth-driving, albeit audible, 1.2L engine with a unique twin-cylinder CNG system and AMT gearbox for effortless city commutes. It provides good low-down grunt, a well-composed suspension to handle extra CNG tank weight, its centre console, and practical safety features like the thermal protection system. However, expect typical AMT head-nod during shifts and a relatively high level of engine noise, though the overall performance remains adequate for its intended use.

The Tiago is powered three-cylinder 12V petrol engine and 114 Nm torque with a 5-speed manual transmission or 5-speed AMT, or a 1.1-litre Revotorq three-cylinder diesel engine producing 69 BHP (51 kW) of power and 140 N⋅m (103). Displacement 119 cc. Fuel tank capacity 35 litres. 

Good boot space with 242 litres. Ground clearance 170mm. FWD tyres. 

As far as design is concerned, the 2025 Tiago has a premium look and has a tweaked face and a refreshed look, thanks to a new upper grille. Exterior designs include halogen projector headlights, antenna, body color bumpers, chrome lines, and door handles. Seating capacity: 5 seater. 

14-inch hyperstyle allows wheels. Headlights are halogens and can be adjusted profoundly. OVRMs with integrated turn indicators. A rear window defogger and wipers.

Premium look with dual-tone black and grey dashboards and contrasting blue AC vents. Black knitted fabric seats with blue stitches complement the good interiors, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Sound systems are Harmon. Automatic climate control options. Practical cup and bottle holders to avoid liquids spoiling the mats.

ESP enhances vehicle stability and CSC for turn safety. Good rear parking features and sensors. Thermal incident protection system. 

Digital clusters with CNG gauge, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity.  Steering-mounted controls and low fuel alerts. Reverse parking cameras, auto headlamps,  rain-sensing wipers, and automatic climate controls. It varies depending on specific models. Bluetooth makes it easier to call hands-free and audio. Incoming sms and notifications keep the driver informed about messages.
