Following the success of the Tesla Model Y in the global market, Tesla officially announced its upcoming Model Y L on July 16th. It will be the new variant of Model Y. They announced it on their Chinese website. The car will make an appearance in China. The global launch is still unknown.
Some photos of the vehicle were posted along with the unveiling news. It showed a sporty look from the outside. And was giving premium SUV vibes. A Model Y L badge in the rear, along with TESLA written in the middle.
The vehicle will have a 3-row layout, consisting of 6 seats, 2 in each row. Tesla Model X had previously 3 rows, but the 3rd row was not spacious, and the headroom was also limited, which came as a drawback for the car.
Tesla listened to their buyers’ drawbacks, and this Model Y L will have a spacious interior. It will be 7 inches longer than the current Model Y and 2 inches taller. It will have a larger wheelbase compared to Model X and Model Y. However, the length is still less than the Model X but more than the Model Y.
In terms of Model Y L’s dimensions, it will have a length of 4976mm(186mm longer than Model Y), a width of 1920mm, and a height of 1668mm. The wheelbase is 3040mm(150mm more than Model Y). However, the ground clearance and tyre size are still unknown.
The performance of the vehicle is looking promising. It could have a Dual-motor all-wheel drive of 142kW(front) and 198kW(rear), making a combined output of 356kW, producing 456hp. An LG NMC battery pack. The vehicle will take less than 6 seconds to reach the speed of 100kmph (5.9 seconds). And the top speed is around 200 kmph.
The official range is yet unknown; some are claiming it to be around 800km, whereas others are claiming 700km.
The exterior photos of the car were published. The interior is still yet unknown. It will be spacious, but the third row will mainly be there for the children. The adults may find some difficulties because of the headroom and space.
However, the interior and safety features are still unknown. But similar features like Model Y are expected. However, some minor changes can be seen. The car is set to make a grand launch by the end of 2025 in China.
China is a very successful market for Tesla, and a major competitor of Tesla, like BYD, Li Auto, are from China itself. And establishing the newest model, in the competitor’s home ground, would make a bold move from Tesla. This could be the reason for Tesla to launch the vehicle in China first.
Recently, Tesla opened their first showroom in India. It will be interesting to see how long it will take the Tesla Model Y L to arrive in India.
