Urban Cruiser EV: The next big thing from Toyota

After the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota is set to introduce its Urban Cruiser in an all-electric variant. The car is set to make a grand launch by October or November this year. The vehicle will have an eye-catching style design with broad shoulders and rugged wheel arches.

Also considered as SMOOTHLY ELECTRIC by the company. With a wheelbase of around 140 mm and 18-19 inches of alloy wheels, the car will also have LED headlights. It will mark a position in the market with two models of different battery sizes.

The battery sizes will be offered in two options – 49kWh and 61kWh. With 49 kWh of battery, it will produce motor power up to 144 hp and 189 nm of torque. Whereas the 61 kWh battery will produce motor power of up to 172 hp, it will also maintain the same 189 nm of torque.

It is expected to have 3 powertrain options. It will have an automatic transmission. The expected range of this car is around 550 km on a full charge. The car is in the production stage right now in Europe. The wheelbase of this car will be 2700 mm.

Infotainment and Features

It will have premium leather and a versatile, spacious interior. A 10.25-inch digital driver display will be provided along with a 10.1-inch multimedia display. The multimedia display will also have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A JBL premium audio system will be there. It will have a more spacious interior as there will be a sliding rear seat system that will help generate more space. 

Urban Cruiser EV Safety Features

Toyota holds a good reputation for providing good safety. The Urban Cruiser got a 4-star safety rating for adult occupants and a 3-star rating for child occupants. Recently released Urban Cruiser Hyryder also got the same 4-star safety rating by Global NCAP.

By looking at the safety performance of its previous cars, this might also be the same.  For safety features, this car will have a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, a Driver assistance system, dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, and a seat belt reminder system.

Pricing and Competitors 

The price of the car will start from 20 lakh rupees and may go to around 30 lakh rupees, depending on the model. Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV 9e, BYD Atto 3, Mahindra BE 6, and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara will be its competitors.

These are some of those cars that offer the same segment and price. However, the whole performance of this car will be dependent on how the buyers find its looks, features, and performance suitable for its price range. As there are a lot of other cars with the same or even better features available in the market at the same range of price range.
