Honestly, picking between the Yamaha XSR 155 and the MT-15 isn’t that simple, because both bikes feel good in their own different ways. The XSR looks old-school and relaxed, something you don’t see much on the roads now, while the MT-15 comes with that sharp, streetfighter attitude that some riders just vibe with instantly.
Many people get stuck because on paper the bikes don’t look too far apart, but the feeling you get while looking at them or riding them… that’s where things actually change. So here, I’m just trying to put both bikes next to each other and see what actually matters for daily use, not just the brochure numbers.
Engine and Performance
Both bikes share the same 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, SOHC engine with fuel injection, but each one has a slightly different tuning. The XSR 155 is capable of 19.03 hp at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm torque at 8,500 rpm, therefore, the power delivery is a little sharper. The MT 15 V2 makes 18.14 hp and 14.1 Nm, the difference is not that great, however, the lower and mid-range are a bit more responsive for acceleration.
Both are equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and assist and slipper clutch, so the shifting is smoother on both. The MT 15 is mated with a fuel-efficiency of 47–56 kmpl, whereas the XSR 155 is speculated around 45–50 kmpl, which are generally similar, but the MT performs a bit better in city runs. Besides, the MT 15 has traction control, which is a feature that the XSR doesn’t have at this moment.
Design and Styling
MT 15 V2 is crafted for fierce street vibe. It features the sharp tank shrouds, low-slung stance, and the signature projector LED headlamp that imparts a predator-like appearance. Split seats, sporty graphics, and wider handlebars are some of the features that make it more performance-oriented in terms of looks.
The XSR, on the other hand, is premium and neat, whereas the MT 15 is bold and loud, which is more appealing to the younger crowd.
Features and Technology
The MT 15 is surely feature-wise the leader. It is equipped with a full TFT console, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, SMS and call alerts, shift timing light, fuel efficiency indicators, and Yamaha Y-Connect app support. In addition to that, the bike is equipped with traction control that makes it the most technologically advanced 155cc one of 155cc category.
The XSR 155 is somewhat simpler just with a digital LCD console, LED headlamp and dual-channel ABS. It retains the retro vibe without a heavy electronic layer, and some riders might even like it better.
Ride, Handling & Comfort
The XSR 155 incorporates USD forks, a monoshock, and a lighter 134 kg frame, thus it is easy to navigate through traffic and remains comfortable when driven on different types of roads. Block-pattern tyres provide a slight off-road capability.
The MT 15 is equipped with telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, and it has a kerb weight of approximately 138–141 kg. The bike carries a somewhat more aggressive riding posture, which is great for sporty riding, but not so comfortable for long-distance rides.
As a result, both motorcycles have a striking resemblance in terms of seat height that is 810 mm and ground clearance of 170 mm, hence the ergonomics seem to be quite accessible.
Price and Value
The cost of Yamaha XSR 155 is anticipated to be around ₹1.60-1.80 lakh, while that of MT 15 V2 is between ₹1.68-1.74 lakh ex-showroom. The price varies according to the different variants. MT 15 is more feature-rich compared to XSR, which is basically a trendy bike with a distinctive design.
Conclusion
Decision to go for either Yamaha XSR 155 or Yamaha MT 15 V2 is largely dependent on your personal style and manner of use. In case of desire for a technologically advanced, aggressive styled street bike, the MT 15 is the one to offer you more features, quicker response and sporty ride.
If you would like to have a vintage look with a comfortable and high-quality classic feel, then the XSR 155 is definitely the right choice for you. Both the motorcycles can deliver you decent performance, but they are built for different types of riders.
